Sustainability

"We have the Earth on loan from all future generations, and therefore must take care of it, maintain it, and restore it where necessary."

This sustainable mission is woven into every aspect of our business. We want to show that sustainability and design can go hand-in-hand.

We dream of a waste-free furniture industry where furniture and materials are endlessly reused and no raw materials are wasted.

From this vision, we have a clear mission: to break through traditional industry standards.

We do this by creating beautiful, high-quality, and customizable furniture that retains its value — for decades. With an eye for people, materials, and the planet, we create the fundamental pieces that support every interior, thus making a lasting, positive impact on the world of tomorrow.

Impact Report 2024

Sustainably designed and produced

Produced in Europe

More than half of our furniture is produced in the Netherlands, and everything is made in Europe.

We work with a select number of furniture producers, each with their own expertise.

We believe it is important to continue investing in these relationships so that together we can make a more sustainable impact. We have been working with some producers since the start of Studio HENK.

Certified materials

All the wood we use comes from responsible forestry. This wood carries the FSC or PEFC certificate.

Most fabrics in our collection have sustainability certificates such as the EU Ecolabel. This means they have been produced with less environmental impact.

Recycled Materials

By using recycled materials, fewer new raw materials are consumed.

That's why we have an extensive selection of recycled upholstery fabrics in our collection.

For example, all fabrics in our entry-level fabric group are recycled, and about half of our sold fabrics now have recycled content.

Since 2024, we also have two chairs in our collection with recycled foam.

Made to order

All our furniture (with the exception of accessories) is custom-made for the client. Only then is it produced. That is why the delivery time is longer than average.

This way, we don't have excess stock and we don't produce more than necessary.

Proudly B Corp certified

We've seen up close how the furniture industry works.

A lot of waste is produced and large amounts of CO2 are emitted. This has a negative impact on the planet and the future of our children, and we weren't proud to contribute to it.

Inspired by companies around the world that want to make a positive impact on people, communities, and the planet through their business operations, we started making changes to our company. We hope to inspire the entire furniture industry to do the same.

That's why we have been B Corp certified since 2023.

Why B Corp

“B Corp provides an excellent framework to benchmark yourself as a company and make significant progress.”

We have seen first-hand how the furniture industry operates; a lot of waste is produced, and large amounts of CO2 are emitted. This has a negative impact on the planet and the future of our children, and we were not proud to contribute to it. Inspired by companies around the world that want to make a positive impact on people, communities, and the planet through their business operations, we started making changes in our company. We hope to inspire the entire furniture industry to do the same.

The global B Corp movement aligns perfectly with our mission to transform the furniture industry. This movement is, after all, focused on changing the system. As a community, B Corp takes collective action to address difficult challenges in current society and the environment; we are proud to now be a part of it.

Our B Corp score

Only companies that achieve more than 80 of the maximum possible 200 points in the Impact Assessment can become B Corp certified.

In 2023, we obtained our B Corp certificate with a score of 85.3. During our recertification in 2026, we demonstrated that there's always room for improvement: our score rose to 91.6.

We are proud of this result. It is the quiet assurance that our conscious choices for people, materials, and the planet are bearing fruit. At the same time, we do not see this score as an end goal, but as a clear roadmap. A foundation with which we continue to refine our furniture and processes so that they last for generations.
