General advice
Wood is a natural product and reacts to environmental influences. Cracks, splits, and warping of wood occur due to the environment in which the product is placed. By following the advice below, damage from environmental influences can be minimized.

Humidity and temperature
Oak wood
Changes in humidity and temperature will often lead to shrinkage, expansion, warping, cracking, or splitting; such fluctuations should be prevented. The relative humidity varies daily and depends on the weather conditions. However, it is essential to keep the relative humidity in the room where the furniture is located at a constant level.
Advice:
- Keep the humidity in the house constant, preferably around 55%.
- Regularly monitor the humidity with a hygrometer, which is often built into modern thermometers and heating devices.
- Use humidifiers or dehumidifiers if necessary.
- Keep the room temperature constant.

Sensitivity to moisture and light
Oak wood
Exposure to moisture or heat can cause moisture to penetrate under the finish, or existing moisture in the wood can accumulate under the finish, leading to stains. Stains or rings can result from improper use.
Advice: Use coasters and placemats to prevent contact with moisture and heat, and dry moisture stains immediately with a dry cloth.
Wood can discolour when exposed to direct sunlight.
Advice: Avoid direct sunlight or use curtains or UV filters to minimise discolouration.
Expected wear and tear
Certain usage effects are inherent to wooden furniture and do not constitute a defect. Damage from improper use can be partially prevented by following the advice below.
1. Scratches and wear
Scratches or signs of wear in the finish of the wood are a normal result of using furniture. This cannot be entirely prevented but can be minimised.
Advice: Use good protection, such as coasters, placemats, or a tablecloth.
2. Stains
Stains occur due to moisture, heat, or corrosive substances and are beyond the control of Studio HENK.
Advice: Clean up spilled liquids immediately with a dry cloth to prevent stains.
Beyond the Control of Studio HENK - No Non-Conformity
Fluctuations in humidity or temperature and exposure to light, moisture, heat, and humidity and temperature changes can be prevented by the customer and are therefore beyond the control of Studio HENK. Consequences such as scratches, signs of wear, cracks, splits, warping, rings, or stains do not lead to non-conformity of a product.
Oak hardwax oil
The following maintenance advice applies specifically to Studio HENK oak furniture with hardwax finishes:
Oak hardwax oil natural (3062), natural light (3041), and dark brown (3063).
Use the discount code STUDIOHENK10 for 10% off when purchasing the following Osmo products on the website osmonederland.nl.

1. Daily maintenance
Hardwax oil
For cleaning your oak furniture, we recommend using the Osmo Spray-Cleaner. This spray contains a small amount of wax that helps nourish the wood and prevents it from drying out. Use the Spray-Cleaner weekly or every two weeks to clean the table.
- Cleaning the wood with water alone can cause it to dry out and lose its lustre.
- Avoid using corrosive cleaning agents or aggressive substances that can damage the finish.
- Never use abrasive maintenance products. Wax-containing products are also strongly discouraged.

2. Minor maintenance
Hardwax oil
After some time, depending on the intensity of use and cleaning, your furniture may need a refresh. We recommend using Osmo Maintenance Wax and Cleaning Agent for this purpose. This product is suitable for removing greasy stains and refreshing and maintaining surfaces treated with Osmo Hardwax Oil.
- It is easy to apply and economical to use (recommended: 2 teaspoons per m²).
- Ensure the table is clean and follow the instructions on the packaging.
- Wipe until the greasy haze disappears.
Make sure to order the correct colour, 3029 (colourless).
3. Major maintenance
If, over time, you notice clear signs of use on your table, such as dull spots or prominent scratches, or if your table is visibly damaged, it's time for a thorough maintenance session.
To touch up oak natural, apply three coats of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 using an Osmo Microfibre Roller.
To touch up oak natural light, first apply one coat of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3041 with a lint-free cloth, followed by two coats of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 applied with an Osmo Microfibre Roller.
It is not easy to touch up scratches or damage on oak dark brown. The steps below therefore do not apply to this finish.
Instructions:
-
Evenly sand the table using a machine with grit P120. Make sure the existing finish is completely removed.
-
Stir the Osmo Hardwax Oil thoroughly for two minutes. When opening the tin, the oil and wax are separated. Always do a test on the surface to check whether the result has the desired effect.
-
Note: the instructions for this step differ for the natural and natural light finish!
A. Hardwax natural: Apply the first coat of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 thinly with an Osmo Microfibre Roller on the new or sanded wood. Roll the product out well. Always apply with the grain.
B. Hardwax natural light: Apply the first coat of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3041 by polishing with a lint-free cloth on the sanded wood. Do this with the grain. -
Within 20 minutes, buff the Osmo Hardwax Oil dry with a lint-free cloth. Also do this with the grain. This ensures an even finish and prevents excess product from being applied.
-
Any mistakes made during application can be corrected up to 30 minutes after application on the wet surface. This includes roller marks or brush hairs.
-
The drying time of the first coat is approximately 8–10 hours (at 23 degrees Celsius and 50% relative humidity). Drying takes longer at lower temperatures or higher humidity. Always ensure proper ventilation. Make sure windows and doors are open.
-
Between the different coats, after drying, lightly but thoroughly sand the surface by hand using grit 240. Make the surface dust-free before applying the next coat.
-
Apply a second finishing coat of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 with an Osmo Microfibre Roller (see step 3A). Allow this coat to dry for 8–10 hours (see step 6).
-
Apply the final, third, finishing coat of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 (see step 3A). Let this coat also dry for 8–10 hours (see step 6).

Oak lacquer and stain
The following maintenance advice applies specifically to Studio HENK furniture with lacquer and stain finishes:
Oak natural lacquer, black, white or coloured lacquer
Oak black or smoked stain

1. Daily maintenance
Lacquer and stain
Wood with a lacquer finish can be cleaned with a damp cloth, then wiped dry with a clean cloth.
- Grease stains can be removed using a small amount of soap.
- Avoid corrosive cleaning products or harsh substances, as these may damage the finish.
- Never use abrasive cleaning agents. Wax-based products are also strongly discouraged.

2. Minor and major maintenance
Lacquer and stain
A lacquer is a low-maintenance finish, but it is more prone to scratches. Unlike a hardwax oil finish, it is not (easily) possible to repair scratches or other damage on a lacquered surface.
