How to find the perfect sofa

You've just moved into a new home or might be moving soon and are looking for a sofa. With all the choices you have to make, it can be difficult to make up your mind. Which design truly suits your interior? And how big can your sofa actually be? With our guide to finding the ideal sofa, we'll help you get started. This way, you'll soon have the perfect sofa in your home.

Buying a sofa often involves more than you think. From design, model, and size to upholstery and color – there are many choices you need to make. With the steps below, making choices will hopefully become a lot easier.

Step 1: Which model suits your interior?
Choosing the right model is largely a matter of taste. What do you find appealing? And what fits with the rest of your interior? Of course, there are things you can consider. For example, do you want a large sofa, but don't want it to be too prominent? Then choose a sofa with a simple look. A sofa with legs also always looks lighter than a sofa that rests entirely on the floor. Do you find it difficult to make a choice? We'd be happy to help you find the right model in our showroom.

Step 2: How big can your sofa be?
The size of your sofa is, of course, entirely dependent on the space you have. In a small apartment, a 2- or 3-seater sofa is probably the best option. A 2-seater sofa naturally takes up the least space but also offers fewer seating places. See if you can combine a sofa with an armchair. This way, you create a cozy seating area, even in the smallest home. A 3-seater sofa can be a great option if you have a bit more space in length. Don't have much space in length, but do in width? Then go for a 2-seater sofa with a chaise longue.

Do you have a large(r) home? Then you can consider a spacious sofa with a chaise longue or even a corner sofa. A sofa with a chaise longue is ideal if you want to place it in a corner, for example, by the window (so you can look outside comfortably). The advantage, of course, is that you can lie stretched out on the sofa without taking up the entire couch. We recently also added modular sofas to our collection. The Modulo and the Cube invite you to play with the different possibilities. Go to our online configurator to view the various options and experiment with size, upholstery, and color.

Step 3: How do you choose the right upholstery?
After you have determined the model and size, it's time for the upholstery. Choosing the right fabric can be overwhelming. After all, there are so many possibilities. How do you make the right choice? At Studio HENK, you can choose from polyester fabrics from our own collection and woolen fabrics from Kvadrat. In addition, you can opt for leather upholstery. The choice depends on your budget, but also on the room where the sofa will be placed. For example, is your sofa completely in the sun? Then a polyester fabric might be more suitable because it is more resistant to sunlight.

Ultimately, the durability of the fabric is shown by the Martindale and lightfastness. Martindale indicates the wear resistance of a fabric. For daily use, a wear resistance of 10,000 is more than enough. Lightfastness indicates how resistant a fabric is to sunlight. Polyester often has higher lightfastness than wool. Curious about the qualities of the different fabrics? Our interior advisors are happy to help you!

Step 4: Design your own sofa
Have you gone through all the steps and are you ready to order your sofa? Then go to our online configurator to assemble your sofa once more yourself. This way, you can already see what it will look like. Still in doubt, or would you prefer to see the sofa in real life? Then come and visit our showroom in Amsterdam.
