HENK Visits Nellie Benner

In the 'HENK Visits' series, we visit inspiring people to give you a glimpse into their daily lives at home. This time, we're visiting radio DJ, presenter, and mommy-to-be Nellie Benner.

In the capital of the Netherlands, we step into Nellie's colourful interior, where she lives with her boyfriend and their three cats. Their home has undergone a complete metamorphosis, with colour and personality taking centre stage. We spoke to Nellie about the renovation, her unique style, and how impending motherhood is influencing her interior.

You recently renovated your home; what was most important to you when creating your interior?
Our interior needed to have a lot of light, colour, and different materials. Almost everything in our house comes from Marktplaats or was designed by a designer. I really like that combination. I don't want standard wholesale items. During my pregnancy, I briefly opted for natural tones, but that turned out to be a foolish choice; it doesn't suit me at all. Everyone should have their own space, but black metal window frames, doors, and light-coloured herringbone floors are quite boring, aren't they?

Where do you get your inspiration for your interior and how is your personal style reflected in it?
My inspiration comes from a mix of what I find beautiful, what my boyfriend finds beautiful, and the lovely pictures my best friend often sends. Pinterest is also wonderful to scroll through; there are so many different styles to discover. You do have to be careful not to get lost. And it can also be frustrating if, for example, you see your dream table, but then it's an 18,000-euro designer table. Then you have to be creative. My personal style is always a bit different from the norm. Sometimes it's incredibly stylish, but I also completely miss the mark sometimes.

If you had to choose one piece of furniture or decoration that best reflects your personality, what would it be?
The unfinished ceiling lamp. It gives light, stands out, wants to do well, but has its flaws. ;)

Which piece of furniture or decoration has a special meaning for you?
The drawings, made by my great-grandfather Gerrit Benner. He was a famous painter.

Why did you choose the Trace set?
A beautiful garden set is for life. I really like the size and the design. It's cute, but made of heavy and strong material!

You're going to be a mother soon; does this influence the choices you make in your interior?
I'm not a fan of pink, but I suddenly ordered a coloured table from Bannach with a pink top. Strange, right? Maybe I've secretly been influenced a little.
