HENK at home with Olivier de Croock
In the series 'HENK at home', we visit people who inspire us to give you a glimpse into their daily home life. This time, we're visiting design enthusiast Olivier de Croock; owner and creative director of Studio Croock, his own creative studio for interior decoration, floral arrangements, and table settings for events.
Olivier lives in a modern apartment in bustling Antwerp with his partner Hannes and two dachshunds, Coco and Blue. His Instagram account is a source of inspiration, and his unique home, love for flowers, and styling make him a prominent figure in the design scene.
How would you describe your interior style and what do you look for when purchasing a new piece of furniture?
I describe my interior style as timeless, neutral with eclectic elements, natural earth tones, and dark wood as a base. I don't really have specific things I look for when buying a new piece of furniture; I often feel immediately that 'yes, that's it.' It's more of a gut feeling I always have. Furthermore, I do pay attention to sustainable materials and I have a preference for unique pieces and objects. If I buy a striking item, I don't want to see it in 10 other interiors.
When you're often on the go, it's extra nice to come home. What is your favorite spot in the house and why?
My favorite spot in the house is the living area, where I can completely unwind. There's a lot of light, which beautifully illuminates everything, and I can just sit there and look around. I also enjoy simply sitting on the couch with some music, or browsing through the books in the bookcase. Furthermore, the living area is also where I receive guests, and I want to create a cozy, warm feeling there.
How do you like the Elements coffee table from Studio HENK and what appeals to you about this design?
The Elements coffee table fits perfectly into our interior. The beautiful dark color and elegant model provide a timeless design in our home. I can put a lot of books on it, and the coffee table serves that purpose perfectly. The coffee table has the right height, which makes it perfectly balanced with our large sofa. It's as if they were made for each other!
You have your own design studio, Studio Croock. Do you have any exciting projects planned for this year?
Yes! This year I have several projects, including one in Scotland! I'm really looking forward to that; decorating with branches straight from the Scottish nature, an evening party full of floral splendor. I think this will be a unique experience in that location. Furthermore, I'm also an art director for a brand I'm very fond of, and there are still some secret projects that I can't reveal too much about yet, to be continued!
