HENK at home with Hanneke Tsujimaru

In the 'HENK at home' series, we visit people who inspire us to give you a glimpse into their daily lives at home. This time we visit Hanneke Tsujimaru, who lives with her husband Akira and two sons in a village amidst the Brabant meadows.

As an influencer and content creator, Hanneke Tsujimaru distinguishes herself on Instagram through her minimalist, down-to-earth style. We spoke to her in her beautifully furnished home in the Brabant meadows, where the Lean Lounge has found a special place.

Hanneke, you live in a very quiet small village in Brabant. How do you like it?

“Very much. We've been living here for about 3.5 years now, and we're still happy with the choice every day. The house is wonderfully spacious, and we have a large garden. It's so nice to hear the birds singing in the morning and to see the cherry tree in our garden blooming. There's always a sunny spot to be found around our house. And if I feel the need for the hustle and bustle of the city, I drive to Amsterdam.”

What do you think of the Lean Lounge?

“I absolutely love the design – the unique shape – of the chair. But apart from the design, it's also a really practical piece of furniture; you can easily move it, and that's perfect if you, like us, want to determine a permanent spot. Sometimes it takes a while before you know where a piece of furniture looks best. The Lean Lounge is now upstairs on the landing where I want to create a relaxation area: ideal for browsing through magazines or reading a good book on a lazy Sunday afternoon.”

How would you describe your own taste?

“Clean and minimalist. Sometimes I wish I could be a little less picky; I'm quite a perfectionist in my work on Instagram. But I often hear that that's precisely my strength. In terms of interior, I often choose neutral colors because I quickly get tired of color. Also, the house isn't always tidy with two children around, and adding color would make it even more chaotic. The light colors keep it nice and calm.”

What do you consider when purchasing interior items?

“Of course, I find the design – how a product looks – the most important thing, but I often have to make compromises. I live with three men in the house, after all, and they find comfort very important. For some items, like our dining chairs, I chose what I wanted, but when choosing a sofa, we had to compromise for a slightly more comfortable one.”
