HENK at home with Tricja Cotterrill

In the series 'HENK at home', we visit people who inspire us to give you a glimpse into their daily lives. This time we visit fashion director and consultant Tricja Cotterrill.

Tricja lives with her husband in the picturesque village of Sloten, in a house they renovated all by themselves. Her interior is a mix of new, vintage, and homemade furniture. She’s a fashion director and consultant for brands, campaigns, and lookbooks. We spoke to Tricja about her style when it comes to fashion and interior design and what she finds important in the home.

You’re a fashion director and consultant. Where do you find inspiration for your work?
I get inspired by beautiful independent magazines like Jane By The Gray Attic, RIKA, CEREAL, Kinfolk, and Ark Journal. I also think Pinterest is a great platform. I find fashion inspiration in brands like The Row, Jil Sander, Gia Studios and Toteme. I regularly travel for my work and always find that very inspiring. I often look at the use of materials and forms of architecture.

How would you describe your style?
My style is minimalistic, calm, and mature. I like to combine different materials, which gives a rich feeling. I also like to combine neutral and solid colours with black or dark brown; this gives it a tough edge.

What do you pay attention to when styling your home?
I think it’s important that the items I buy are timeless, fit together well, and make sense in the space. I invest in beautiful pieces of furniture, and quality is a must. Nowadays, I also buy vintage design furniture more often.

What’s your favourite room in your house?
Actually, I like all the rooms in our house. The bathroom is like a spa and the bedroom has a very nice atmosphere and a wonderful hotel-style bed - I love sleeping, haha. But when the sun shines, this beautiful light comes into the living room, which is a wonderful place to be.

What do you like about the Cozy Sofa?
I’m very happy with this sofa. It’s so soft but the sofa stays in shape once you’ve sat on it. It doesn’t collapse as many sofas do. The shape of the sofa is also incredibly beautiful in our house; the organic form really makes the living room more unique.
