How to style your table shape this festive season

Looking to bring a festive feeling into your interior without being too cliché? After elegantly styling our Amsterdam and Antwerp stores, Studio HENK Photographer and Stylist Cindy Bakker shares her top tips. Focused on creating the ideal atmosphere for bringing loved ones together, here are her recommendations for styling a charming yet subtle holiday setting that compliments your table shape.

1 - How to style a round table

Whether you’re dining with your immediate family or setting up an intimate dinner for two; a round table is a wonderfully inclusive shape for bringing people together. To accentuate the common centre point we recommend focusing your styling in the middle of the table. Start with an earthy scented candle such as sandlewood or amber and moss to create a wintery forest feeling and complete this centrepiece with pinecones and moss from your local florist. For the table settings choose circular ceramic plates, placemats and side plates to create continuity with the round shape of your table.

2 – How to style a rectangle table

Rectangle tables present a fantastic opportunity to have individually defined table settings – repetition is your best friend. Don’t be afraid to keep it timeless and traditional with luxurious décor such as gold cutlery and linen napkins. Then, add some greenery in the centre of each napkin for an elegant finishing touch. Green branches and mistletoe from your local flower market will not only look festive but also bring a nostalgic forest scent to your table.

3 – How to style an organic shaped table

Is your table characterised by rounded edges like our Blob, oval or flat oval tables? These shapes are all about adaptability and give you the opportunity to be a bit more playful. Reflect this in your setting by mixing and matching various types of seating such as chairs, a dining bench and poufs. This utilises all sides of the table edge and means there is something for everyone, kids and adults alike.

The Studio HENK team wishes you a very happy holiday season! We hope these tips can help you maximise those meaningful moments around your table with loved ones. If you are looking for more styling inspiration we’d love to show you around our stores or help you out in a free Interior Advice session.
