An online guide to finding the ideal dining table

Now that we’re spending more time at home, we’re becoming more aware of the space we’re living in. We recognize all the things that we love about our homes, but perhaps also see things we would like to change. Are you looking for a new dining table for your home? With our online guide we’d love to guide you through the process.

From design, shape and size to material and finish – there are many choices to make. With all the possibilities out there, it can difficult to make a decision. Which design fits your interior? And what size can your dining table be? With our online guide to finding the ideal dining table we’d love to help you out. Before you know it, you will be dining at your new dining table.

Step 1: What size can the dining table be?
The size of your dining table obviously depends on the space you’re living in. The easiest thing to keep in mind is that you need about 70 to 80 cm between the dining table and the wall to ensure that people have enough room to sit comfortably. If you want people to be able to walk around the dining table while people are seated, you need about 90 cm.

Now, our frames can be placed at three different positions underneath rectangular and flat oval tabletops. This allows you to play around with the number of seats at the table. If you place the legs on the outer ends of the table, you can seat more people next to each other. When you place the legs closer to the middle, you can seat someone at the head of the table. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Our oval and round dining tables have a fixed position.

Step 2: Which tabletop shape is most suitable for my living or dining space?
The shape of your tabletop also depends on the room where you will place it. Some spaces are more suited for round dining tables, whereas in other spaces it simply does not fit. How do you know which shape is most suitable for your living or dining space? When you know the measurements of your living space, you can easily find out if a round, rectangular, oval or flat oval tabletop is best. As I mentioned before you can easily calculate how much space you need for your dining table by adding 2x 70-90 cm to the width or diameter of your table. For a rectangular or flat oval table with a standard width of 90 cm you will need 230-270 cm. The length of the table is up to you. For a round dining table with a diameter of 140 cm, you need 280-320 cm. So contrary to what you might think, a round dining table isn’t always the most suitable option in a smaller space.

You can also take a look at the shape of your living or dining space. For example: if you have a rather square room, a round dining table will probably fit perfectly. Does your space have a smaller width and, as a result, a more rectangular shape? Then a rectangular or flat oval tabletop is probably a better option. If your living or dining space has a small width, you might consider pairing your dining table with a dining bench. A dining bench can easily be placed against the wall, saving up space and creating a more open feeling.

Step 3: Which material is most suitable?
The choice of material is mostly a matter of taste. However, your lifestyle might influence your choice as well. For example, if you have children, an oak dining table with a natural or natural light finish is always the best option. Our oak dining tables are least sensitive to scratches, as they’re protected with hardwax oil. They are also easy to maintain. Are you looking for a wooden dining table, but is oak wood to light for you? We also offer smoked oak and walnut wood. These tables are a bit more sensitive to scratches, though, as they’re protected with a natural lacquer.

If you already have a wooden floor in your apartment or house, you might prefer a dining table in a different colour. An option would be black stain or white lacquer. (Note: these are more sensitive to scratches too, compared to hardwax oil). Another option is HPL. HPL is a smooth material with a more modern appearance, It’s less sensitive to scratches, as scratches can easily be removed with a magic sponge, so a good alternative if you’re looking to add some colour.

Step 4: Which frame fits your interior?
The choice for the design of your dining table really is a matter of taste. What do you find most beautiful? And what fits the rest of your interior? Of course, there are a few things you can keep in mind. For example, do you want a simple frame, or do you want something slightly more outspoken?
